For sure I looked like the ‘Michelin Man’ – you could have rolled me down the pavement and I would have bounced along safely. ‘Oompa Loompa’ vibes were real, but damn I was warm. Not one part of my body felt cold except for the areas that I chose to have exposed. When sudden peri-menopausal hot flashes hit, the frisk air was a welcome respite on my hands, face and neck.
I looked at the falls, frozen in time. The cold air should have made me shiver to the core, but I felt more warm and more alive than ever. Not a hint of chill. Turns out, having the right gear changes a dreaded icy trip into a fun and magical adventure.
